When you start thinking about the time that you spend staring at a screen it can add up quite quickly. Most of us now have personal computers at home or at the office and we like to relax at the end of the day in front of the television. On the way we might be looking at text messages on our phone or choosing music to listen to on our music players. Some people spend more time communicating with machines than they do with people these days. This is why many people are committing themselves to a Screen Free Week or day every once in a while. You can find more information on "Screen Free Week" by visiting here.

Before you endeavor on to a full week or day without all of the screens in your life you should think about how you're going to get by without them. You might not think that you're dependent on technology but as you look around your office or your home you might see just how many things that you're using them for. It's likely that if you're running a business that you will not actually be able to completely turn off all of your electronic devices and still be able to run smoothly for a week. So, you might just want to start with what you're doing at home.

One of the main things that we use computers and other devices for these days is communication. You might talk to your dad while you're studying abroad on Skype or could send messages to friends about after dinner drinks through a text or Facebook message. When eliminating screens from your life for a week you're using going to need to go back to some older methods of getting a hold of people. That means actually talking on your phone instead of just writing a message.

Another time when we use screens is for entertainment. After working hard you might want to relax at the end of the day in front of the television or surf some of your favorite sites on the Internet. This is something that can pretty easily be replaced by non-screen options. Get outside and enjoy a nice day by taking a walk or playing one of your favorite sports. In the evening you could dive into a new book or get some things done around the house that you have been putting off. It's amazing how much extra time you have when you're not spending it in front of screens.

Though you might need it for your job or to take online training, we could all do with some time that's away from all of the new technologies that are out there. Start by spending a few hours screen free and see how far you can get.<
